Exhibition Statement

This new body of work has emerged from the recent changes in our collective social landscape; a revolving platform of natural disasters, political incompetence, war, migration and apathy.  We are entrenched in an environment of political unrest where communities are segregated and economic divisions grow larger. Politics and religion have disregarded our uniques gifts and qualities to the world, forcing us into a struggle for freedom, and for many, survival. Within my practice, I use furniture as a catalyst to create direct and mental associations of our daily lives. In previous works, I have used the medium to evoke memories of home, self and the dysfunctions of family; my work has now moved away from personal narratives and into a social critique of hierarchy, civility and the protection of human rights.
