The River of Light, Waterbury’s annual Community Lantern Parade began in 2010. Founding member Angelo Arnold, has worked as part of an artists’ team to give students from the Waterbury/ Duxbury School District and surrounding towns, an opportunity to learn lantern-making and construction techniques to create willow and tissue paper lantern structures.
In addition to this, Arnold has worked with professional artists during a special two-day lantern workshop, to design and build larger-scale luminaries to spearhead the procession. The artists have willow, rattan and bamboo at their disposal as well as tuition in construction, structure and form, lighting, wiring and back-pack and harness building.
